Me joining the boys high school golf team?

I'm going into high school this year and I'm really excited! I have a heart condition which does not allow me to play on sports teams, even though sports are what I'm best at. The only sport I can do is golf. I was looking through the activities booklet for my high school and they only have a boys golf team. I want to join it anyways. What I want to know is if they say I can't, because I'm a girl, is that illegal? And if there is an Internet link that says/shows that it's against the law to prevent me from joining a male high school sports team? Thanks!
