What do I do in this situation? Need an answer by tomorrow?

My good friend who I have known since preschool told me he was in the Marines about a year ago. At first I believed him, so I was like oh that's so cool! And I just let it go. Well this summer he told me he was going to Iraq. Well I found out today that he was lying about everything because he said he got a general discharge and so I chilled with him today. However, my other friend asked me if he was alright because he isn't answering her texts. And I told her he's alright I chilled with him today,and she got all pissed because he sent her a message at like 10:00 saying he was still in Iraq. BUT, that's not possible because I chilled with him today. She was really hurt because her father was in the Marines and he passed away when she was a baby. So she was really mad. I plan on confronting him tomorrow about it, but I know for a fact it would lead to a fight because he gets very aggressive, but I don't want to fight him because 1) I would kill him in a fight 2) I don't fight unless I have to and 3) I've known him a LONG time. But a good friend wouldn't lie about going to war. So... What should I do
