Pain from my wrist all the way into my chest what is this?

I've had this on and off for a month now i'd start feeling pain in my arm then all of a sudden my chest will seez up and I wont be able to move for a few minutes the most resent one has lasted about 20 minutes i've been told its carpal tunnel but is it really?
