Fun and good way to teach ABC's & 123's?

I'm currently caring for a 4 yr old just turned 4 last month. He is not being sent to preschool so I'm trying to teach him abc and 123's he can count to ten but doesn't know what they look like. He is lost with letters though. I was thinking of making number pages to color draw and etc or letter book but please help with other effective ideas.
