Medical marijuana card without sounding like a drug addict?

how do you ask your doctor for this without sounding like a drug addict? ive never tried weed but i read that it helps with carpal tunnel and with sleeping problems. and i feel like if i ask him he will assume that i just want it for drug purposes and deny it? help me out please?
